Pittsburgh 2018, Nationals Chem-E Car Competition: Results
The Chem-E Car Nationals team flew off to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 26th to join the AIChE Annual Student Conference and Chem-E Car competition alongside students and teams from all over the world, including contingents from Brazil, China, Greece, Qatar and India. Our fellow Canadians University of British Columbia were in attendance, as well as the 1st place team at our Regionals competition last spring – Clarkson University Team 2.
After a first run during which we experienced a fluke error, we came back in our second run to place a strong 9th out of the 38 competing teams, at 62.5 cm from the line. First place went to Georgia Institute of Technology with a distance of 1 cm. Our highly dedicated team put in what was surely a record breaking amount of practice with this car, and though we were hoping to do a little better, we are very proud to be 9th in the world, and 1st in Canada. Congratulations to Co-Captains Jenosan Annamalai and Rola Abdul-Ghani, as well as Christina Boghdady, Orhan Sari, Zijie Jin, Tony Ye and Thomas Philippon on your persistence and performance.
So many interesting Chem-E Car ideas were on show during the associated poster presentation and we were also able to benefit from chemical engineering talks and events at the student conference. On top of everything, the city of Pittsburgh was a beautiful backdrop for our weekend. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to our success, including Daniel Pacheco who consulted by Skype call, our hero Frank Caporuscio, and our supporters in the Department of Chemical Engineering at McGill. We look forward to getting back to work on our next car to do it all over again.

Who Are We?
It’s really simple; we are a group of university students from varied engineering disciplines who share our knowledge, team spirit and expertise to come up with a chemically powered car – The Chem-E Car!
We are always redesigning our car’s stopping mechanism and power source by incorporating electrochemistry, electronics, and reaction kinetics.
